About Emma Bridgewater Pottery

All mugs come with colourful sponged patterns, witty words, beautiful illustrations or bespoke personalisation, so there’s something for everyone! These pottery mugs are the cornerstone of the range and feature the widest choice of designs. They’re great as presents (some come boxed for easy gifting). All are handmade and hand-decorated at the factory in Stoke-on-Trent. At Emma Bridgewater, we like to make things that make everyday life slightly nicer. We create beautiful things to look at and a pleasure to use, like a lovely mug that cheers you up when you have your first cup of tea in the morning or a bowl with a playful message that makes you smile when you use it.

Traditional Earthenware

All our pottery is made from cream-coloured earthenware, a traditional Staffordshire product in our factory in Stoke-on-Trent, the home of British pottery. We still do most of the production work by hand. Emma Bridgewater spongeware colours can vary because the pieces are individually hand-decorated, meaning each item is unique and will have slight variations in the sponging and colour. The sponging process itself uses different sponges and colours, and some patterns require more sponges and colours than others, contributing to the differences between pieces. Every piece is hand-decorated, so each is slightly different – and the person who paints our spongeware also signs it. From the beginning, Emma wanted to make pottery that could be used and enjoyed daily. We take a lot of care with the shapes of our pieces. Our mugs feel just right in your hands. Our bowls and plates are big enough for generous portions but not that silly restaurant size that takes up all the room on your table. And, of course, all of our tableware is perfectly happy being washed in the dishwasher.

Care Instructions

• Our pottery is dishwasher-safe. We recommend a lower temperature wash and liquid detergent to help maintain appearance.
• Not recommended for use in the microwave. Earthenware pottery can sometimes get hot in the microwave.
• Not oven safe. Our pottery is not oven safe unless marked as cookware.
