Sid Dickens Cello Memory Block
Fall 2018 – Commemoration
With the Fall 2018 Collection, Sid’s combination of beautiful florals, dimension and a musical tone commemorates things that have brought him joy and inspiration in life. Artistically, the Fall release follows a natural shift to a darker colour palette, mirroring the cycle of the seasons as the days begin to shorten. However, optimistic hints of brightness shine through in the imagery presented and the meanings behind them.
The Commemoration Collection displays how inner strength can allow room for growth: the ace of spades encourages us to persevere through difficult times and the diamond reminds us that through hardship, we can emerge stronger and more beautiful than before. “Honour” is a quality only we as conscientious beings can strive for and achieve, while “Dice” reminds us of life’s endless possibilities. “Calla Lily,” a classic and timeless bloom, is contrasted with “Cosmopolitan Flower,” Sid’s own conception of different florals, The “Cello” and “Cashew Apple” symbolized the sweeter things in life, whether it be a soothing melody or taking the time to enjoy the fruits of our labour. Lastly, the pineapple, the symbol of hospitality, brings warmth to the collection with its encouragement for openness and acceptance.
Sid’s new Fall 2018 Commemoration Collection reminds us of how life can have trials and tribulations but still be full of light and hope. It is with this brighter outlook that we are invited to determine what we as individuals and as members of our communities want to be remembered for.
About Sid Dickens Memory Blocks
Combining a painter’s eye and the experimenting skills of an alchemist, Sid Dickens manufactures full-of-character decorative tiles from his cozy Production Studio in downtown Vancouver – A utilitarian and serene studio-cum-production space where Dickens’ Memory Blocks are created at the pace of a few thousands a week. Quality is ensured by a fully integrated manufacturing process that guarantees complete control over the entire production line at every step, from moulding to pouring and hand-painting to finishing.
The traditional process of tile-making has changed very little since his first piece made back in 1994. The Memory Blocks are made by local artisans using the distinctive ingredient of porcelain-like plaster, ingeniously combined with time and patience.
Sid Dickens Ocean’s Gift Memory Block is available from Finch & Lane Interiors Melbourne’s luxury furnishings and interiors company.
